Passport/Emergency Certificate/ Surrender Certificate/ Police Clearance Certificate

A. Passports

The Passport is a very important document.  It should be kept up to date by renewing it before it expires.  Its loss should be reported immediately to the local Police authorities and also to the nearest Indian Mission.

Passports are re-issued on expiry of final validity and it can be done one year before expiry, on exhaustion of visa pages, damage or loss, changes in appearance or particulars etc.

Indian Passports are generally issued with a validity of 10 years (except in the case of children up to the age of 15 years where it is issued for a validity of 5 years).

1) Issue / Re-issue of Passports ;

Required documents:

  • Take a printout of the duly filled online application
  • Put signature/thumb impression in the specimen signature box, at the first page and put your signatures/thumb impressions along with date and place at the other pages in the relevant column(s).

NB: Please note that Passport is made on the basis of entries made by an applicant in the online form. Therefore, ensure that all entries in the online, as well as printed application form, are correct.

    • Original Passport with self-attested copy of first and last page
    • Stay permit (titre de séjour or carte de resident) with self-attested copy of the same.
    • Two recent photos 5*5cm, colored photographs with white background; (one of them pasted on the first page of the application form)
    • Proof of address in case there has been change in address; e.g. Electricity, water bill, driving license, etc. with self-attested copy of the same.

) Application for replacement Passport in lieu of Lost/Damaged Passport:

Application for duplicate passport can only be made after a personal interview with the Consular Officer.  Kindly contact the Consulate to set up an appointment.  

Required documents:

  • Bring all the documents mentioned under issue/reissue of passport
  • Self-attested copy of the lost passport
  • FIR made to Police, in original.
  • English translation of the police report

After the interview, the consulate may require additional documents to process the application.

4) Registration of birth and Passport for New-Born Baby

As per the amended citizenship act, the new born baby must be registered with the consulate within one year from the date of birth of the baby.

a. Registration of Birth

b. Passport

Required documents:

  • Original Birth Certificate of the child
  • Two recent photos 5*5cm, colored photographs with white background; (one of them pasted on the first page of the application form & unsigned)
  • Indian passports of both parents or at least one parent in case the other is a foreigner (original + copy)
  • Parents' stay permit (carte de séjour or carte de résident) in original
  • Declaration as per the model given hereafter, by both parents not adopting any other nationality in r/o the baby. In case of either parent being a French national, this declaration should be attested by the concerned Marie.

 Fees by cash only:

(i) New Passport (After Final Expiry of the Existing Passport or Exhaustion of Pages) : €62.00 (36 pages) / €77.00 (60 pages)

(ii) New/Replacement Passport in lieu of Lost/Damaged Passport: €112.00(36 pages)/€132 (60 pages)

(iii) Passport for a Minor / new born baby : €42.00

Note :

The originals of the documents are also required to be presented before the Consular Officer at the time submitting the application form.  

Depending on circumstances in each case, supplementary documents may be required to be provided.

Emergency Certificate

In cases of loss of passports for the Indian nationals visiting Reunion Island, apply for Emergency Certificates directly with Consulate.

Required documents:

  • Copy of police report in r/o lost of passport
  • Self-attested copy of first and last page of the Passport

Passport Surrender and Renunciation Certificate

The Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 does not allow dual citizenship. Holding an Indian passport / acquiring an Indian passport / travelling on an Indian passport after acquisition of foreign citizenship constitutes an offence under the Indian Passport Act, 1967, and attracts penalties. Indian nationals, who have already obtained citizenship of another countries must renounce/ surrender their Indian passport immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship.

All the persons of India origin, who have acquired foreign nationality on or before 31.05.2010 must surrender their Indian passport. They will be issued 'Surrender Certificate' and cancelled Indian Passport.

All the persons of India origin, who have acquired foreign nationality on or after 01.06.2010, must surrender their Indian Passport and Renounce Indian citizenship. They need to apply for a Surrender Certificate and Renunciation of Indian nationality.

All the persons of India origin, who are unable to produce Indian passport should apply for a sworn affidavit stating the reasons for not being able to produce the Indian Passport. Along with Sworn affidavit they should also apply for renunciation of Indian nationality.
